*breathes a sigh of relief*

Well, almost. There’s still that midnight book release thing to do later.

Thank god for Fridays. We went and did the last little bit of stuff before moving into the new house; that is, we walked through and checked stuff off a list, and got the keys and the alarm code and whatnot. I so didn’t want to leave. I’m in love with this house (and with any luck, it’ll be ours for real in about a year). I will post photos as soon as I’ve got them.

And today’s Why I Knit? Because I love socks. I really do. I generally wear all black, and it amuses me to know that I’ve got wacky socks on underneath. So now I knit them and I can produce my own wacky socks, in whatever color and style I like! Win-win, if you ask me.

And if this isn’t enough blog for you, here’s somebody else’s (and I’m a total shoe nut, so this is particularly interesting to me):

Sea of Shoes

(I still haven’t figured out how she’s funding these shoes, though)

Plurk

HappyGoth is upset with people for spoiling Breaking Dawn without warning her.

HappyGoth thinks she’s had enough Diet Coke for one day.

HappyGoth is probably going to get to leave work on time (hopefully).

HappyGoth is pissed because Plurk is down.

HappyGoth realizes that now she’s Plurking via her blog.

HappyGoth also realizes that perhaps she’s got a problem.

HappyGoth should probably go do some real work.

HappyGoth leaves to go do that.

The crazy never ends.

I think that my mom’s theory about it raining when important things are happening has some truth.

Today, it’s raining (it rained a bit yesterday, too). On top of that, I’m moving on Saturday (or beginning to, at least), I’ve been given another huge project here at work, Breaking Dawn comes out in a little over 24 hours, and somebody stole a length of copper cable from a main phone line, so half the building went home, being without phones or internet. Sadly, not our half. In reality, that would have sucked, because we’re on a tight schedule, but it also might have been nice to pack some boxes all afternoon. This move is making me nervous.

I did find time to work on my sock, though. I’m thinking that I’m going to add some extra cables to the top of the foot (they’re teeny; I won’t even feel them), to pep it up a bit. And I saw BraveHarlot, Jennie, and Friend of BraveHarlot (who, excitingly enough, is moving to Atlanta soon, so, yay!), which was much-needed estrogen time. Yay estrogen. We all sat outside and knit before we realized that it was too hot to do so, but by then it was our bedtime, so we all went home.

I think I would like it if BraveHarlot suddenly needed to move to Atlanta.

Well, monkeys.

I am so over this week already. I was hoping to get to knit this evening with BraveHarlot and Jennie, but I’m not very hopeful about that anymore. I will perhaps be at home instead (I’m so skipping SCA, either way). I knit one more row on the Socks of Awesome, and am hoping to finish the second chart before the heel breaks my brain (I’ve not turned a heel on 3 needles before).

And I think Plurk is a huge time-suck (but I’m not quitting).

Bison

Last night, we went out for dinner with BraveHarlot. That is, I called her on the phone and then absconded with her from the North Avenue MARTA station and took her to Ted’s Montana Grill, where we all ate bison cooked various ways. I got the steak, she the pot roast, and the husband a burger atop a salad. Then we further absconded with her, taking her out for Morelli’s ice cream. I called Jennie up and persuaded *coughforced* her to join us, and we all sat around eating ice cream and knitting until the lightning on the horizon made us decide to go inside. All in all, it was a fantastic evening.

I’m hoping that Wednesday I’ll finish up work soon enough to be able to go to Knitch with them. At the very least I can go to dinner after work (but I’d like to have this happen on time this once).

Due to moving, the camera cable has been misplaced, yet again. So I’ll post photos of projects once I’ve unpacked (it could be a while). However, since I really want to share (and because the ChickenGoddess’s socks look identical to mine, mostly), here’s a representation of the Rivendell socks of Awesomeness:

They sparkle! Seriously. The most beautiful socks in the universe.

[Disclaimer: this is the ChickenGoddess‘s leg, and her sock. I take no credit for her work or genius.]

Socks!

Are all I’m knitting lately. Oh, but what socks they are. I’ve made the decision (finally) to rip out the Rivendell socks I started in Marrakesh, and I’ve started a new pair using the Lotus Knits yarn in Walk With the Ghost (I think that’s the colorway). It’s a soft grey with little silver strands throughout, so the socks are misty and magical. It’s as though the yarn was designed specifically for this patter (or vice versa). I’ve gotten through the first chart on the first sock, and will undoubtedly finish the second chart by next week (unless packing to move takes up all my time). I am in love with these.

Sadly, although I spent 11 hours at Reagan National airport in DC, waiting for the storms to pass over Boston so we could fly in, I only finished another couple of rows on my pink socks. I’m so close to finishing! That day was seriously too stressful for productive knitting. I didn’t think it was possible, but apparently this sort of occasion exists. I have a feeling that the next couple of weeks are shaping up to be more of the same (although I will get much more accomplished as I will be at home and not on a business trip).

Once I get my photos uploaded, I’ll post the one picture I took in DC before my camera crapped out and WIP photos of the new Rivendell socks. They are truly spectacular.

Happy Monday!

Still crazy here

So I give you another blog to read:

Karl Lagerfeld’s Guide to Life

I think this might become my new favorite. It has earned a spot in the links already.

In which I see my stats go waaaay down,

Both on my blog and on Plurk.

I’ll be gone on photoshoots in DC and Boston this week, so I’ll do a mondo post on Friday to make up for it. In the meantime, I will be knitting like mad on the plane, so I’ll be sure to post some photos afterward (I’ve remembered to bring my camera battery charger this time!).

Also, I’m renting a car in DC, which scares the living crap out of me.

Not so much

I feel that with my out-of-character weekend post yesterday, I’m excused from today, except to say that Knitty is doing nothing to help me overcome my sock addiction. You hear this, Knitty? Well, you should. Because you keep putting up awesome sock patterns and I can’t help but print them out and add them to my ever-growing stack of things to cast on (even though I have four socks in progress at the moment). However, to your credit, you have given me something to do with the Marrakesh sock yarn that I tried to make Rivendell socks out of, which I will now frog and reuse in the lovely flower pattern you’ve posted this month. I have sparkly grey yarn for Rivendell. And it’s so much fun, I don’t even care that I have to knit it all again (I don’t really know where I am in the pattern anymore).
