Why I Knit, #7

Because I love being a geek, and I love that knitters are totally geeks. Case in point:

The Mario Scarf

Is it weird that I so want to do this for the final ship level in Super Mario 3? You know, the one with the BaBombs (bullets) and the hammer-throwing gophers? I think that would be sweet.

So far, my geekiness has produced a knitted dalek, and I imagine that it’ll only go from there (as much as I detest colorwork, some things are too cool to pass up)

DragonCon, Day 1

Whew. What a weekend +1.

Day 1 happenings are not terribly exciting, since I count Day 1 as being Thursday, and Thursday was mostly just getting stuff done in preparation for the next day.

The brother-in-law came into town the night before, and then we all got up late (I was at work until 2:30 in the morning, trying to wrap things up so that I could have a weekend free of work-guilt) and tried out the pizza place around the corner. I think we may very well have found our new delivery pizza place, to replace Savage Pizza. The sauce was spicy and the toppings great, and everybody was super-nice, which seems to be the standard for our new neighborhood.

After that was errand-running, and I sucked it up and went to American Apparel for socks, and then Jennie called to let me know that the registration line was around the block already, so we headed over and met Nick and Miffy to stand in said line for our badges. Thursday is not usually very exciting, line-wise, but much fun was had by all and we went to R. Thomas for dinner, and then dropped everyone back at the hotel and went home. Later, I discovered that Baobh and her husband had arrived that evening, but did not find this out until the following morning, so pooh. We saw much more of them the rest of the weekend, so that was alright.

At this point, I had no idea what insanity was in store. But I have photos, and will elaborate more on that tomorrow, when we look at Day 2, otherwise known as Friday (and we see how much I remember…)

Tentacular

DragonCon was so that. I’ll give a thorough report this weekend; yesterday night I ended up working until the wee hours of the morning, but I have photos uploaded, so I’ll show them off soon. In the meantime, here’s a little preview:

See? Tentacular.

Two unfortunate things

And one fortunate thing:

Unfortunate first; Not only do I not have photos to show off (I’m such a tease, I know), but also my new socks both stain the inside of my shoes pink and also smell like dog pee when I wear them with my Converse. I will have to see what happens after I wash them.

Fortunate next; I am going to DragonCon! Yay! I love all the Devil’s Panties folks, and I can’t wait to see them…

If I were a man

https://i0.wp.com/img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/tomasutpen/album4/pricebefore.jpg

(Image stolen from here)

I’d want to be just like Vincent Price.

I swear I’m not dead (the above statement is a complete nonsequitur, by the way); I’m just very, very busy.

Work  has been kicking my ass, and DragonCon is in two days (geez – only two? wow, that was fast), so I have had exactly zero time to devote to blogging. In fact, I pretty much just go to work, come home and get odds and ends done around the house, eat dinner, bathe, then read a little before I go to sleep.

However, all this aside, I have managed to finish the pink socks and also to purchase a washer and dryer from an ex-pro wrestler. How cool is that? I have the socks on right now, and the husband was giddy over the wrestler bit (he is a huge fan of pro wrestling). I am bringing my hard drive home this evening, so that I may post things from it to flickr and then blog about them, in photo form. I really have some exciting things to show off (like the fact that we finally gave Claudia her surprise hug shawl).

T minus two days to DragonCon. I’m super nervous.

One thing I love

Klaus Pierre.

Seriously. This guy is awesome (and yes, I know that it’s all very cleverly written, yaddah yaddah; it doesn’t make him any less awesome).

In-Ja!

If I were a man, I’d be rather hirsute, I think (though I don’t find beards and moustaches attractive on men, personally, as a woman). I’d have a big, bushy, Regency-style beard/sideburns combo, like a walrus, and I’d so totally enter this:

World Beard & Moustache Championships

Still crazy here

So instead, I bring you people on a crazy water slide in Germany:

Alas, I don’t speak any German, but I can only imagine what they’re saying (because I probably said similar things the first time I went on one of those mega-fast super-drop slides we have in the States).

Today

Just in case (it’s been nuts, and my internet isn’t so hot at home), I bring you a shining example of My People:

Truly, a model for us all to strive to become. And to think I’ve been out of black lipstick for at least four years. Whatever will I do? I need to fix this, obviously.

Wow.

This is a truly awful piece of knitting.

Thanks, FFFFOUND!
