My yarn is popular!

I gifted it (my hand-dyed, in the colorway Violet Wand) at a Dirty Santa exchange yesterday, and Jen stole it away from someone. How cool is that? It is this yarn:

Violet Wand by you.

Which is much more vibrant and lovely in person, and sort of matched the bag that came with the gift, too. Score.

I’ve got some new roving, myself. I can’t wait to try it out! The husband says it looks like reindeer.

Bye bye, hair inspiration.

He has a PhD by you.

(That’s me on theĀ  left. I am not Dr. Horrible.)

RIP Bettie Page.

And I don’t feel guilty at all.

Except about the thousands of cookie-based calories I consumed yesterday, but that is a different sort of guilt.

And really? Nobody’s life is ending because I’m not listening to myself talk, so there’s no reason!

I have been busy with Christmas knitting, or more specifically, a re-obsession with Star Wars and, even more specifically, Han Solo, and all that this has to do with knitting is that I have been knitting while I watch the Star Wars trilogy (we shall not speak of episodes 1-3, which are inferior in all ways), over and over again.

This has yielded something quite spectacular, though. I have gotten through much of a sock in what is record time for me. It’s a quarter of the way done already! And I only started it last weekend! While slow for other knitters, this is quite quick for me, and gives me hope of finishing the first sock project ever sometime before the fifth and sixth sock projects ever (the first project ever is my first pair of socks, which are still uncompleted some 2 years after I started them).

I still have not finished any sweater-level projects. I imagine those won’t be nearly so quick.

Shameless plug

But also me being busy/lazy. Go check out the awesomeness that is Lotus yarns:

(Why did this never get posted? I have no idea. Well, go buy yarn, anyhow.)

Sometimes

I rather like researching things for projects. Oftentimes, I see things like this:

Brrrrr.

So far, I have made it until just now (2:30) before turning on my space heater. Dang, but it’s cold in here! I would feel more proud of myself if it were actually bitterly cold outside. As it is, it is merely damp and chilly, but since the office is in a converted railroad roundhouse with gigantic, beautiful, drafty windows, it feels uncomfortably cold in here.

And then I saved this post, having intended to place it on the blog yesterday, but today I remembered it (it totally didn’t go up yesterday), and I feel a little more justified in being cold, because it was quite cold (for Atlanta) this morning, and my fingertips were bluish. Only just now I ate some soup, and I feel much better.

I have set aside the Super Secret project and the Nine Taylors socks and the First Socks and the Rivendell Socks (I like socks!) in favor of Christmas present-type knitting. I am using stash yarn (my own hand-dyed stuff!), and am feeling pretty good about this. Also, it smells like fruit. That’s generally pretty awesome (so maybe kinda sorta awesome that it merits three adjectives at once!). I shall post photos just as soon as I find the motivation and camera cord that allows me to do so.

And I really will start on the Nine Taylors sock (again) soon, once things are knitted for people. And once I finish the First Socks (I promised the ChickenGoddess I’d have them done before the end of the year).

Why I love cephalopods

Possibly twice as much as cats (which, while sweet and fluffy, are kind of dumb in comparison):

Otto the octopus wreaks havoc.

And there you have it. Happy Friday, folks!

I am happy to know you

Dang, man. That’s some good stuff.

In which I am red in the face

And the Tsarina of Tsocks herself points out that there is a chart for the angel cuff in the pattern book.

Did I mention I always do things the difficult, convoluted way?

I forsee much speedy progress being made in the near future.

“Wow, is my face red!”

I feel gigantic.

I’m not gigantic, but I feel gigantic. The holidays always do that to me. I start out by saying, “I’m going to take it easy this year, and be good!” And then come the turkeys and the cookies and the more cookies and the cake (and did I mention cookies) and candy and pizza and by January I’m so stuffed that I only want to eat carrot sticks until March.

My parents came to visit for Thanksgiving, and we were pretty good about the food thing. We ate light until Thanksgiving Day, then had a healthy breakfast of fruit and cake (mmm, cake), then didn’t eat again until dinner, wherein we gorged ourselves on turkey and steamed vegetables, because even when my family does the overeating thing, we’re healthy about it (if by healthy you mean covered in cheese sauce). We then had Korean food the next night, and ate leftovers for the remainder of the meals, and so while I feel gigantic, it was mostly vegetables. Thank goodness for the rowing machine the husband acquired for us.

And also, Octane was disappointing in its coffee that tasted of bacon. I like bacon as much as the next person, but I feel that its flavor and the flavor of coffee are things that ought to be separate.

I took my mom to Knitch on the last day of their visit and she pet some yarn and informed me that I can knit socks for her, which makes me happy, since I like knitting socks and they knit up faster than the other things she’s asked for. This means I can give her knitted gifts at some point during her lifetime. I knit slowly. However, because she was here the whole week, I did not get any knitting done, as one project is for her and would not be a surprise. I also restarted and then frogged the Nine Taylors socks, yet again. The Chickengoddess promises to look at them and help me figure out what I’m doing wrong. She thinks that perhaps I am missing some yarn-overs, which is most likely the case. I haven’t gotten farther than a couple of rows so far. I think that if I can get it going, I’ll be pretty set with it. Maybe if I chart it out, it’ll be easier. It’s been a while since I’ve knitted from a text-based pattern.

And then lastly, Neil Gaiman is still brilliant, and this is pretty much where I netted out after I watched The People vs. Larry Flint (which is overwhelming, but excellent).
