Lack of posts

Is due to this purchase:

Which I made this afternoon.

Makes it sound so casual, doesn’t it? Like, oh, I went out to the mall and bought a house.

(And I might agree with you, if I hadn’t just promised to pay the equivalent of four years of salary over the next 30 years, in small increments. On the bright side, I should have my student loans paid off in, oh, six years. Maybe.)

RUM

So. In order to prove that I actually do stuff while I’m not blogging, I’ve got photographic proof (at the end, because I’m not sure yet how to insert photos in the middle of iPhone posts).

Last weekend I piled into a car with Robin and Blogless Lea, and went to RUM ( an SCA university-type event, for those not in the know).

I learned how to make shoes! And then helped reach folks Persian dance, as is shown in the photo (and took an excellent class on SCA politics, taught by Mistress Rosamounde).

We finished the evening off with all the barbecue pork in the entire world, plus dancing and the telling of stories.

So all in all? Not half bad.

(Especially not considering that Robin got her AoA and Lea got an Order of the Guiding Hand, plus a wicked cool scroll depicting her as the Goddess Laxshmi.)

My Cat

He’s pretty much the cutest thing ever.

Hi!

Whee.

Yay for non-consistent blog updating. Or something.

Anyway. Life is huge right now, and I’m sort of unmotivated (trust me, you’ve fared better than LJ, which has heard me whine pretty consistently lately).

But I did stuff. I have:

Completed 60% of a Francie sock, using Jitterbug (which is a lovely yarn to knit with).

Spun and plied over 300 yards of various wools, using my drop spindle only.

Watched a terribly recorded Bollywood film (one of the 256 Wonder Husband bought off CraigsList for $20).

Completed an extremely successful photoshoot in L.A.

Consumed possibly the best taco I’ve ever eaten at an L.A. taqueria, after ordering in Spanish and while cheering on Spain in the World Cup semifinals, along with the rest of the restaurant.

Watched Spain win the World Cup, despite the bullying they got from the Netherlands (strangely enough, I found myself cheering for the Netherlands, but couldn’t figure out a reason why, except that once my pee-wee soccer team wore the same color uniforms, the year we went undefeated).

Finished some baby knit items that I desperately need to send to my sister-in-law before the niece becomes too large to wear them (the niece is recently birthed, and growing as babies tend to do).

Discovered that I desperately needed time off teaching to recharge my batteries. Whew.

Cleaned my house and went through stuff that has been shuffled around between houses for four years now. I can see the floor! I’m putting things away! I’ve been sweeping and cleaning regularly! These things may seem like givens, but I’m apparently not particularly successful at being an adult. Or picking up my socks.

And finally, I got bored with the Highlander and moved on to Dark Shadows, Doctor Who, and now Buffy (I’d watched it all when it aired, but it’s nice to re-watch, especially because now I can appreciate how truly awesome Cordelia is).

My camera is lamer than ever, so I can’t promise photos. But I’ll try. I need to document the spinning and the socks, at any rate.

Keep on hanging in there

So. No new stuff lately, except for the following, summed up very well by Jennie, who went through this a while before me:

02/28/2004

Yep. That pretty much sums it up.

Well, all except for my surprise when I saw that the packet of papers the loan lady gave me was only about a quarter of an inch thick. I actually expected stacks and stacks of papers.

That was a nice surprise.

Megacon

Was in March, but I am in the process of Life Things so I haven’t done anything interesting lately, which leads me to posting photos that sum up what the experience of Megacon was really like:

And finally,

Yep.

Wonder Husband was there, too, but he’s far too stoic to accurately convey the crazy that was that road trip.

Why get your hands dirty?

There are other people to do it for you:

Such Tight Slacks

Hilarious people, who write the most insanely funny and accurate reviews of things and leave comments about silly other people rooting for the French in the World Cup.

Today I was cheering for the Swiss but got tired of them falling down and stopped watching. They fall down a lot.

I have a niece!

The very first one ever. Her name is Caitlin, and she’s adorable:

So. Cute. Congrats, Kellie and Brett! I am going to spoil the crap out of this girl.

(For the record, my brother, Andrew, is not married nor has he fathered any children. I am really happy that this is the case. Kellie and Brett are much more together and ready for this sort of thing!)

What I’d rather be doing

Is this:

I’ve had a really awful chest cold for the past week, and have not been getting nearly enough sleep. Woody here has the right idea (Courtney‘s nephew played with the toy so much that it doesn’t work, and we’re going to see if Wonder Husband can fix it).

Hey, France

What was up with that last match? I was so cheering for you, and then there were those two goals by Mexico and then I was kind of sad.

But I’ll still cheer for you anyway.

(In case you didn’t notice, I’m a little World Cup crazy at the moment.)
