I have been lacking in the motivation lately and the weekend looms, which means more non-blogging, but will involve My Name is Khan (!).
Anyway. Today I translated some of a Hindi song into English for Mr. Jaipur, only not so well. Mostly I thought he was challenging me, but then I found out he really did want to know, so I think I only confused him, but my Hindi knowledge consists of words I know from films and various conjugations of “to be” (hona) mostly in the present tense. I can refer to myself and others as various dishes of food. For example, “main saag paneer hoon” and “aap naan nahi hain.” So when confronted with words such as “deewana” (which I have until this point incorrectly assumed was “crazy” but is in fact “lover”) and “vaade sare,” I am dumbfounded and turn to the imperfect skills of Google Translate. This leads to much guessing on my part. But to my credit, I only missed the first two lines and did a pretty passable job at the rest of the translation. I have added the film that contains the song in question to my Netflix queue. And also a German course to my LiveMocha lineup. Because I’m impulsive and crazy, all at once.
Still no camera cable.
In the meantime, are you aware that Tavi is the coolest teenager on the planet? When I was 13, I was no nearly so cool. Heck, I’m not that cool now. Kudos to her folks for being equally awesome and nurturing her creativity. (I’ve been obsessively following her and Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes for a while; they both completely fascinate me.)
I want to hear all about My name is Khan!!!!! I must admit, I’ve slacked on my Hindi. Go you.
